NOTE: It is strongly recommended that you participate in the blogging aspect of this course using either Mozilla Firefox browser or Google Chrome browser. They seem to have the fewest incompatibilities with Blogger and are free programs. Internet Explorer can be troublesome. If you have difficulties posting or commenting, try an alternate browser first before notifying me.
You must complete all steps in order to create your blog. Don't skip anything.
This is part of your Day 1 sign-in requirements.
1. Go to http://www.blogger.com/
2. Set up an account, following the directions provided. You may be required to create a Google email address. If you have an existing Google account, you may use that. Write this email address down and safely record your login information so you can access your account throughout the course.
3. Once you have an account, select the option to start your own blog by clicking on the "New Blog" button. You will need to select a name for your blog. Give it some thought. It should not be your name and no personal information should be available to the public from your blog. This will be open and available to all, so be internet savvy and protect your identity.
4. It is up to you how much you personalize your blog, but have some fun with it. The system will ask you to choose a background and then you will have access to all of the settings.
5. IMPORTANT!: When you are in edit mode, click on the "Settings" tab, and confirm the following under "Posts, Comments and Sharing":
- Set "Comment Location" to Embedded
- Set "Who can comment?" to Anyone
- Set "Comment Moderation" to Never
- Set word verification to No
6. Now submit your url in Canvas: Once you have completed the set-up process, open your blog (“View Blog” at the top of the page). At the top of the page of your blog, you will find the url address for your blog. It will have the name of your blog followed by “.blogspot.com”. As soon as you have the blog url, copy it and submit it to me through the assignment portal in Canvas so that I have the link. Click "Submit Assignment" at the top of the assignment page and copy/paste the url into the submission text box. For example, the url for my blog is: http://theadductedhallux.blogspot.com/
7. Fix for Commenting Issues (Third Party Cookies): If you try to post a comment and it disappears (and if you are using the correct browser and a computer, NOT your phone), then chances are your computer is set to block third party cookies. Blogger requires the use of third party cookies, so if your computer blocks them, you can't comment. How do you fix this? Click the link above. It has directions on how to fix your settings for your specific browser to accept third party cookies.
NOTE: You will only need to complete this process once for this class. You will use the same blog for the entire duration of the course, creating new posts for each blog assignment. Once you have sent me you url, you won't need to do it again.
Email me if you have any problems. You can also check the "Blogger Help" page at the right.
That's it! Have fun with this!
